Day 3 – 10th  February 2019

Bariloche 40km Approx

This  morning  we  transfer  out  to  our  bike  fitting  and after being acquainted with our bikes, have a fantastic warm  up ride to get us acclimatised.   This is a circular route passing the shores of Nahuel Huapi, a large glacial lake surrounded by the snow-capped Andes before we then head back inland to Colonia Suiza where we have lunch.    The  route  then  heads  back  towards  Bariloche along  a  mix  of  tarmac  and  dirt  roads.   We  finish  this warm up ride at the Berlina brewery where there is an optional beer tasting session.

This  afternoon  there’s  the  option  to  then  head  up  to the Cerro Campanario hill on the cable car for some fantastic views.   This evening we overnight  again in Bariloche.

Day 4 – 11th  February 2019

Bariloche – San Martin de Los Andes                                                                                             80km approx.

This morning starts with an 80km transfer out to the lake shore.  From here we saddle up for a spectacular first  day  of  cycling.    We  set  off  along  the  7  Lakes  route,  which  is  dominated  by  the  dramatic  Andes mountain  chain.     Much  of  today's  route  is  along  lake  shores,  allowing  for  remarkable  sights  and  great photo spots; the scenery is simply stunning with panoramic  views of snow-clad peaks, evergreen forests and raging waterfalls. Our destination is the charming town of San Martin de Los Andes.    It is one of the most  beautiful  locations  in  the  Lake  District,  known  as  the

'Garden of Patagonia'. Overnight in San Martin de Los Andes.

Day 5 – 12th February 2019

San Martin de Los Andes – Choshuenco

77km approx. (53km off road)

It's   an   action-packed   day   as   we   cross   the   border   from Argentina in to Chile.   Today is probably the most challenging ride  as  it  is mostly  on  dirt  roads as  we  ascend  and  descend the  mountanious  region  towards  the  border.      One  of  the biggest   challenges   of   the   day   is   the   climb   through   the southern  Andes  to  Huahum  Pass,  one  of  the  main  mountain crossings between Argentina and Chile. The scenery changes to a  lunar  landscape  the  closer  we  get  to  the  summit.  Border formalities  may  take  some  time  so  we  have  lunch  at  the  pass before  continuing  the  challenge.    After  lunch  we  then  have  a short ferry crossing before we get back on our bikes for the final20kms. We  overnight  in  Choshuenco,  on  the  shore  of  Lake Panguipulli.

Day 6 – 13th  February 2019

Choshuenco  – Pucon                                                                                              86km approx. (3km off-road)

It's the longest day of the challenge but an easier ride today. We are now in the heart of the spectacular Chilean Lake  District in the foothills of the Andes. This morning we cycle  around the southern shores of glacial Lakes with views of snow-capped volcanoes.  After lunch we ride another 20km along the lake shore to the small town of Lincanray.  From here we than have a short transfer (1 hour) to our overnight stay at Pucon in the volcanic region, where we stay in the heart of this vibrant town.

Day 7 – 14th  February 2019

Pucon - Cunco

80km approx. (16km off-road)

This  morning  we  have  an  early  start  to  get  out  of  town  and avoid  rush  hour  traffic.   Weather  depending,  we  should  get spectacular  views  of  Villarrica  as  we  head  out.    Today  our route  connects  the  lakes  and  large  lava  fields  that  surround the area.    After we pass through the town of Villarrica along the  lake  shore  we  turn  onto  quiet  roads  for  a  challenging 15km  off-road  section  through  the  forest.    We  finish  and overnight at San Pablo lodge near Cunco.

Day 8 – 15th  February 2019

Cunco – La Baita                                                                                                            70km approx. (19km off road) The start of this morning’s route passes through the two small towns of Cunco and Melipeuco along main but quiet country roads.    We then enter the dramatic landscape of Conguillio National Park at the foot of Mt  Llaima.   From here the  remainder of  our  ride  is  all  on  dirt  roads  as we  cross through  the  lava  fields hidden amongst volcanic lakes and forests filled with old Araucaria trees.  The finish line of our ride will be on the shore of the Conguillio Lake.   After celebrating the culmination of our ride, we have a short 14km transfer  back  to  our  overnight  lodge.     This  evening  we  enjoy  a  celebratory  meal  to  mark  our  fantastic achievement.
