Day 1: London - Vienna
This morning we catch our group flight from London to Vienna. On arrival, we transfer to our hotel to check in and have some lunch. After lunch, we will be doing a bike fitting and time permitting we will do a short city cycle tour of Vienna. This evening we will have a briefing and hear more about the challenge ahead.
Day 2: Vienna - Bratislava 75 km approx.
We set off from the hotel and cycle towards the trails which leads us along a cycle path bordered by lakes and forests on either side. The final morning section we pass through Vienna’s immense Prater (an expansive meadow and forested park with over 250 attractions). After lunch, we enjoy a stunning section through the Danube wetlands, a National Park east of Vienna. We then cross the border into Austria and soon we enter picturesque farmland dotted with ruined castles on hilltops. This evening we have dinner and overnight on a ‘Botel’ on the River Danube. Tonight, is basic but an ideal experience to sleep on the river and be in the heart of an incredible town.
Day 3: Bratislava - Komarno 112 km approx.
We leave the lively city of Bratislava (Slovakia's Capital) on the city’s impressive cycle path network and cross the river. We follow the canalised river on a traffic free cycle path. Most of the afternoon is spent on smooth tarmac and we enjoy a peaceful bike ride along quiet roads through small, farming towns before we stop for lunch. Afterwards, the ride winds its way through farmland following the River Danube. A short ride through the town takes us to the riverbank path. The last section is at times quite tough as it is partially gravel but you will soon reach your hotel for a well-earned rest!
Day 4: Komarno – Budapest 124 Km approx
Today we continue to cycle on the northern bank, along more quiet roads and we pass a wine-producing region. This part of the ride is flat, the biggest climb being the bridge at Esztergom. We lunch on the Slovak side of the river, facing the imposing Basilica of the Blessed Virgin Mary that dominates the area. Our last break will be by the river in the picturesque old town of Szentendre. The ride follows the beautiful area known as the “Knee of the Danube” with dramatic hills and cliffs, none of which we will climb! Soon we join the Danube bike path, passing through the area of the Roman settlement of Budapest. We then head into the city using the network of cycle routes and roads, cross the Danube via Margaret Island, a popular park area. We cross the finish line and have a truly memorable celebration meal in Budapest!
Day 5: Budapest - London
This morning there will be free time to explore Budapest, whether it be visiting one of the many amazing sights such as the Fisherman’s Bastion or relaxing in one of the incredible spas. It will truly be a day to remember. We then transfer back to the airport for our flight back to London.
Please note this is a complex itinerary which is subject to change.
